In the ever growing woe is me celebrity/athlete elitist mentality in the USA, we have Free Agent Defensive End Dwight Freeney this week suggesting all 32 Owners of the NFL made a pact to be cheap in 2013. Freeney is entering his 12th season in the NFL, 11 of which were with the Indianapolis Colts. He floated through the majority of Free Agency before finally agreeing to a 2 year $8.75 million contract with the San Diego Chargers. His exact words were:
“I basically think the owners got together and decided not to spend the cash on free agents,” Freeney told Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com. “I definitely think that’s part of it. I think the owners made a pact. There’s only 32 of them and none of them broke ranks. I think they all decided not to spend money.”
He’s not just saying that he didn’t get the paycheck he was hoping for, but that no big deals were made because the owners (let’s say what he wants to really say, “Evil Old Rich White People”) all got together and had a meeting in the Secret Skulls boardroom and decided nobody was gonna get a big check this year. Collusion, if you will. The Illuminati are at it again.
I think Dwight forgot about Mike Wallace signing a $60 million deal with the Dolphins, or the Tampa Bay Bucs blowing $96 million on a guy coming off of a major knee injury in Revis. The Bucs also added Dashon Goldson for $48 million. Hey Dwight, maybe the owners finally got smart and have decided to stop signing over the hill players to giant contracts and screwing up their cap space for 10 years. It’s really sad to me knowing that you’re only going to be paid $4 million dollars the next 2 years. I mean, what will you do? Hopefully you can make due.
