A Discourse in Steel by Paul S. Kemp
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Paul Kemp, you may not be a blonde schoolgirl with pigtails and a multimillion dollar contract to sing in Las Vegas….but, you’ve done it again. A Discourse in Steel, the 2nd book chronicling the adventures of Egil and Nix, is a great throwback adventure novel that Robert E. Howard would have been pleased to read. When an artist is given a blank canvas and allowed to fully express themselves, that is when their true ability comes forward. I’ve loved reading Mr. Kemp’s Forgotten Realms novels, and like most fans of the genre can’t wait for his next release, The Godborn, to finally hit the shelves, but these two stand alone adventure stories truly show the spirit within the creator. They have an old school feel to them. The banter between Egil & Nix keeps just the right amount of humor, while the action, and suspense hold steady until the final chapters.
Can’t recommend this book or the author enough…even if he is a lawyer.
